Thanks for stopping in! Really, this is just a blog about the band Tone Deaf. Who is Tone Deaf you ask? Well, in a nut shell they are a '70s classic rock party band. Nothing fancy, just straight ahead rock. I guess what makes them different is they aren't trying to wow anybody with there musical abilities, they're not trying to sell you their newest (or any) CD. No, they are there to entertain and be entertained. They do it because they truly love to, not for money or an ego stroke (well, maybe a little).
The way it all came about was really just jamming in a basement studio. They would get together once a week to drink beer and play some rock and roll, just like being 16 all over again. Oh, I guess I should mention these guys can't even see sixteen from where they are standing right now, but rock and roll is about attitude, not age.
On weekends, they would go out to the bars and catch live entertainment. It didn't take long to figure out that there weren't a lot of bands that were playing the stuff they liked to listen to. Sure, you would find ones here and there that did a few cool tunes, but no one that captured the '70s decade that produced the music they loved and, really, some of the best music ever written.
Before long, in there jam sessions, they learned more and more tunes, until they got to a point that they had enough songs to do a night if they chose to. So they did a jam night at a local pub just to test themselves and the water. This was back in August of 2002, at the Bishop and Firken in Burlington, Ontario. Considering how drunk they were, they were reasonably successful. On to the next challenge...doing a full show. A friend, Pat, was celebrating his birthday, and a big one to boot, so it was arranged that the boys would play for his surprise party at the Port Credit Yacht Club in Mississauga, Ontario. All-in-all, the evening was a success. These boys were ready to play a few pubs and have some fun.
Now, Tone Deaf wasn't supposed to be the name of the band either. That was just a working title that came from fake band (think Mili Vanilli) that bothers of one of the guys in the band had back in the late '70s. The original Tone Deaf did a show at their school cafeteria, and all went well until the tape stopped. One of the largest food fights to date occured shortly there after. A history like that you have to appreciate, but today's Tone Deaf, or Tone Deaf Mach II, hadn't really planned on keeping the name.
They managed to get themselves booking in a couple of venues and recruted and audience from all of their friends, to make for some really good parties. Before long, they were developing a following and, well, the name had to stick. The idea back then, and still today, is that they only play about one every couple of weeks, and pretty much only on weekends. Any money they made went to pay their bar tab and keep them in strings, beer, drum sticks, beer, food, but mostly beer. This is truly a unique band, probably one of the most unique on the circuit today.
Do yourself a favour, check out the Official Tone Deaf Website at ToneDeaf.ca and see what it's all about. You'll find all the usual stuff that you would find at band websites, but everything has a Tone Deaf twist on things. Not to mention web pages that are just dedicated to keeping you amused. That's what these guys are all about, entertainment, and it shows in everything they do. Hell, watch them set up for a gig sometime. You're not gonna hear a lot of shop talk, more like jokes and lines from movies and cartoons. These guys are clearly insane...but that doesn't make them bad people.
Hopefully, soon, some pictures and stuff will be add to this website. Check back again soon.
